Regional Locations and Expansions 2011

The following is a sampling of businesses that have established locations or expanded operations already based in the St. Louis area in 2011.
Henderson Trucking Co.- Henderson Trucking Co. plans to move 530 jobs and the bulk of its operations to a 10.2-acre site in Caseyville, Illinois, in St. Clair County. Their new facility is larger and more centrally located, which positions the company for future growth. The business specializes in the hauling of refrigerated products, and has a fleet of more than 400 tractors and 550 climate-controlled trailers. The project is a $1.1 million investment.
Bunge-SCF Grain, LLC - Bunge North America, the North America operating arm of BungeLimited and SCF Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings, Inc. to build a new river terminal in Fairmont City, Illinois located in St. Clair County. The joint venture will build a state-of-the-art facility on the Mississippi River that will receive agricultural and bulk commodities to be shipped domestically or exported overseas. The project will employ about 100 construction workers and will take up to 12 months to complete. Once operational, the facility will employ up to 20 full time employees.
Gallus Biopharmaceuticals - Gallus Biopharmaceuticals, a new firm led by President and CEO Mark Bamforth, will be acquiring Johnson & Johnson's Centocor Biologics campus in Berkeley, Missouri. Gallus will invest $20 million in the plant within a year, and a total capital investment of $71.5 million. They will also retain the existing 160 jobs currently at the current facility and add 160 new jobs. Gallus will continue to produce two drugs for Centocor: Remicade, a multibillion-dollar arthritis treatment, and Stelara, a relatively new treatment for psoriasis.
RR Donnelly - RR Donnelly, a Chicago-based commercial printing company, is expanding its operations and adding 105 new jobs at its Owensville, Missouri plant. The company will be making a capital investment of $6 million at the facility, which manufactures textbooks and workbooks for education, healthcare and government entities. Substantial growth in the education and healthcare markets has led to the company expanding to meet the demand for its products.
U.S. Bank - U.S. Bank and its community development subsidiary are planning to add more than 300 new workers in St. Louis this year. The hiring is a direct result of the growth that Minneapolis-based parent company, U.S. Bancorp, sees a growth in both its mortgage operations and its St. Louis-based community development arm. The company plans to add at least 170 new workers to its mortgage servicing and credit administration operations alone at its downtown St. Louis location.
SyMyCo, Inc. - SyMyco, an international ag-tech company, announced it will locate its U.S. headquarters in the Bio-Research and Development Growth Park (BRDG Park) at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in Creve Coeur. The company expects to hire 80 researchers over the next five years. SyMyco is a subsidiary of Symbiotic Sciences, which is headquartered in New Delhi, India and is a joint venture partner with Mycorrhizal Applications, Inc. based in Oregon. SyMyco’s research and development focuses on ways to increase crop yields through products that better deliver water and nutrients to farmer fields though beneficial Mycorrhizal fungi.
Mercy Health - Mercy Health is planning to build a new hospital and other medical facilities in St. Charles County and a “virtual care center” in Chesterfield, Missouri. The building projects are budgeted for $290 million in St. Charles County and $90 million in Chesterfield. The high-tech center in Chesterfield would allow doctors and nurses to provide telemedicine services to patients in outlying areas of Missouri and surrounding states. This project would also add 300 to 400 new jobs.
Emerald Automotive - Emerald Automotive, a British company, is building a $175 million plant in Hazelwood, Missouri to build electric-hybrid vans. The company plans to add as many as 580 jobs over the next five years. Emerald Automotive Holdings, Inc., based in Hazelwood, Mo., was formed through the partnership of Intelligent Energy (IE) and AGT Strategic Consultants, with the purpose of overseeing the development and production of the t-001 in North America. Emerald’s management team has a wealth of experience bringing low-volume, niche vehicles to market.
Immaculate Baking Co. - Immaculate Baking Co., an East Coast-based bakery specializing in gourmet, organic, scratch-baked cookies has located a refrigerated dough plant in the St. Louis region. Initially, the company is creating 28 new jobs at an average annual wage of $26,717; and investing over $2 million in new equipment and leasehold improvements to an existing facility. Immaculate Baking dough products can be found locally at Straub’s and Whole Foods Market, as well as at Trader Joe’s under their private label brand.
General Motors - General Motors is planning an expansion of their Wentzville, Missouri plant. The expansion is a $380 million investment and will create 1,850 new jobs. The plant will add a second shift to produce full-size vans and a midsize pickup truck.
