Many of the Greater St. Louis region's 25+ post secondary schools continue to be recognized among the most vibrant communities of scholars anywhere. The area is comprised of universities and colleges being noticed as top schools in the nation with some of the strongest programs in a range of specialties and areas of expertise. Recent education ratings and rankings for the St. Louis area include:
Top Schools and Programs
- U.S. News & World Report’s "America's Best Colleges 2010" named Greenville College in Bond County, IL as the 41st "Best Baccalaureate College" in the Midwest.
- Webster University was named the 24th best university in the Midwest division of the 2010 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Universities-Master’s” category. Maryville University ranked No. 29 on the same list, along with Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville ranked at No. 47.
- McKendree University ranked as the 15th "Best Baccalaureate College" in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2010." McKendree was also the baccalaureate college in the St. Louis MSA to be named as having the "Best Value" among Midwestern baccalaureate colleges, ranking 8th.
- Saint Louis University (SLU) was the only school in Missouri to hold simultaneous top-tier national rankings for undergraduate and MBA-level entrepreneurship programs in 2007. Fortune Small Business named SLU in the top-25 entrepreneurship programs for undergraduates, while U.S. News ranked the undergraduate program No. 21 in the United States and the graduate entrepreneurship program No. 27 in 2007.
- Saint Louis University's Health Law program ranked No. 1 for the fifth consecutive year in the "America's Best Graduate Schools" issue for 2009. As a whole, the School of Law ranked No. 95 in the country.
- Saint Louis University was named No. 88 in the "Best National Universities" category by U.S. News & World Report for 2010 and ranked among the top five U.S. Catholic universities by the same publication in 2006.
- The University of Missouri-St. Louis' college of business administration was named as one of the 2006 Princeton Review's Best 282 Business Schools.
- The International Business Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis ranked No. 16 among the top 20 best undergraduate international business programs by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" for 2009. This marks the sixth consecutive top 20 appearance for the university.
- Two St. Louis business schools ranked top in the nation by BusinessWeek's "Best Undergrad Business Schools" list, published March 2008. Olin School of Business at Washington University took No. 15, while the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University ranked No. 71 in the country. The Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri (No. 76) was the only other undergraduate business school in Missouri to make the top 100.
- The Olin School of Business at Washington University ranks No. 28 on BusinessWeek's "Best U.S. B-Schools of 2008," noting that students like the small class sizes and the attentive faculty. Rankings are based on recruiter and student surveys for 2008, as well as the number of published faculty members.
- Washington University in St. Louis is the third-best medical research school according to U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools" 2009. The medical school ranked among the top ten in specialty fields of occupational therapy (1), physical therapy (2), audiology (5), pediatrics (7), and internal medicine (8) according to the report. The George Warren Brown School of Social Work earned No. 1 in the nation for master's social work programs.
- Washington University ranks 12th in the "Best National Universities" category in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" 2010, and the Olin School of Business ranks 16th in the "Best Business Programs" category in the same report.
Best Value
- Washington University in St. Louis ranked No. 21 on Kiplinger's 50 Best Values in Private Universities for 2009-2010. The study measured academic quality factors and affordability based on SAT and ACT test scores, students per faculty, graduation rate, total cost, cost after need-based aid, aid from grants, and more to determine universities that exemplify excellence while keeping costs to a minimum.
Most Literate Cities
- The St. Louis Public Library ranks 2nd in the nation for library services out of 69 cities, according to a 2007 study by Central Connecticut State University. The study also ranks St. Louis the 6th most literate city in America overall (up from No. 12 in 2006) based on literacy categories like booksellers, educational attainment, Internet resources, library resources, newspaper circulation, and periodical publications.
